Area under vine at the estate, from its technical sheet — it does not change from one vintage to the next. Each vintage’s blend, by contrast, departs from it: that figures on its own page.
Classified Premier Grand Cru in the Saint-Émilion AOC since 1955, Château TrotteVieille is recognised as one of the greatest wines of Saint-Émilion.
Acquired on impulse by Marcel Borie in 1947, the estate is now managed by the Castéja family.
Terroir
Château TrotteVieille occupies a superb hillside east of the village of Saint-Émilion; the vineyard extends over a 12-hectare terroir planted with 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is one of the few estates still holding very old Cabernet Franc vines dating from before phylloxera.
“Best score”: the highest score recorded for this wine, with its source. “Character”: the overall reading of the year across the appellation, which an estate may depart from.
