The wine
A Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Mouton Rothschild extends over 82 hectares of vines in Pauillac, in the Médoc, planted with the varieties typical of the region.
The estate enjoys exceptional natural conditions, both in the quality of its soils and in their exposure and sunshine. It receives meticulous care which, from grape to bottle, combines respect for tradition with the most modern techniques.
Brought to the summit by two exceptional figures, Baron Philippe de Rothschild and then his daughter Baroness Philippine, her three children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, today remain faithful to the work of their grandfather and their mother and are committed to perpetuating this pursuit of excellence, with the same enthusiasm and the same determination.
Every year since 1945, the label of Château Mouton Rothschild has been illustrated with an original work by a leading contemporary artist.
Terroir
Château Mouton Rothschild has 84 hectares of vines in Pauillac, planted with the varieties typical of the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (16%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). This premier cru enjoys exceptional natural conditions, both in the quality of its soils and in their exposure and sunshine. The Château brings together all the conditions for an exceptional terroir: a rise of nearly 8 m of dense, poor Garonne gravels resting on a marl-limestone base shot through with traces of iron oxide.
