Footprint, parcels and their split are measured on the Compagnie Médocaine’s own parcel survey; elevation, slope and aspect on the Mapbox terrain-rgb digital terrain model, derived from IGN’s RGE ALTI over France. In the late 17th century, Monsieur Gabriel Ferriere, a renowned figure in maritime brokerage, acquired this estate, which brought together the finest vineyard land in the village of Margaux, and gave it his name. Royal brokers from father to son, the Ferriere family worked notably for Louis XV and wished to produce an excellent wine for their many receptions. Two centuries later, the Château would become their pride by obtaining the title of 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. At the end of the 1980s, after nearly 300 years in the hands of the Ferriere family, another Bordeaux family, the Merlaut family, became its owner. Bernadette Merlaut-Villars set about restoring it to its former splendor.
