Area under vine at the estate, from its technical sheet — it does not change from one vintage to the next. Each vintage’s blend, by contrast, departs from it: that figures on its own page. The shares published by the estate already total 100% even though it lists other grape varieties: for lack of a consistent breakdown, none are shown here.
Château La Tour Carnet dates back to the 12th century, making it the oldest château in the Médoc. Its architecture is medieval, with a tower built in 1120 and surrounded by a moat. It has had a number of famous owners, including the family of Michel de Montaigne, one of France’s greatest philosophers and author of the Essais, who was twice Mayor of Bordeaux. The vineyards of Château La Tour Carnet were planted here in 1409.
