The 2025 vintage in Sauternes
Vintage benchmark: 93/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)
Vintage character: Regular morning mists in a dry autumn brought back honest botrytis: clean, nicely taut wines.
Overall reading of the year’s season across Sauternes. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.
Tasting
Château Guiraud 2025 offers exceptional precision and aromatic clarity. The first nose is fresh with notes of vine peach and white flowers. The second nose, very typical of Botrytis, reveals riper notes such as apricot and roasted pineapple, accompanied by delicate aromas of thyme, dried herbs, garrigue and oak moss. The palate, although rich, demonstrates a liveliness and rare energy, without compromising the silkiness. The menthol notes provide appreciable freshness and help digest the 145 g/L of residuals. The wine meets the house standards: all finesse and balance.
