Winemaking
Once the harvest is over, work continues in the cellar, fermentations are active and the aromas are bursting forth. The work of a cellar master requires great mastery over the production of wine because the temperature of the must and the methods of extracting color, tannins and aromas require great attention.
Ageing
16 to 18 months in oak barrels (65% new)
Terroir
Clos Fourtet has a naturally drained terroir of clay-limestone soil with a shallow topsoil. The plantings are 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The vines, with an average age of 25 years, are worked in a traditional and considered manner: use of organic and mineral fertilisers, debudding, protection of the embryonic bunches and of the vine stocks against disease, mites and fungi, leaf removal, and green harvesting to optimise concentration.
