Vintage benchmark: 89/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)
Vintage character: The Indian summer served the cabernet francs better than the merlots: sound, fresh wines, without great depth.
Overall reading of the year’s season across Pomerol. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.
Château CLINET 2014 has a ruby-garnet appearance.
Highly aromatic, the nose presents flavours of raspberry jam, blackberries, plum and liquorice.
These aromas then develop to reveal toasted bread, brown sugar and Jamaican pepper.
Its rich, creamy texture is reminiscent of the CLINET signature.
Soft and delicate, the taste includes hints of cherries and forest fruits with a rising intensity.
As a whole, it is well balanced and very refreshing.
In 2014 the growing season was relatively long, with flowering beginning on 21st May and the harvest on 23rd September (+120 days!).
Grapes started to ripen gradually thanks to pleasant climatic conditions with no excessive temperatures. September was sunny and the harvest took place in clement, dry weather.
Yields were generous, reaching 49 hl/ha on the whole with 40 hl/ha for the Grand Vin. Quality and maturity were constant among the different grape varieties and parcels.
Shares for this vintage, as recorded on the 2014 technical sheet. The vineyard itself is planted with 80 % merlot, 20 % cabernet sauvignon — a vintage blend departs from the area under vine as the year dictates.
