The 2013 vintage in Pomerol
Vintage benchmark: 76/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)
Vintage character: Coulure decimated the merlots and the rain did the rest: a light vintage, where the gap between terroirs is wider than usual.
Overall reading of the year’s season across Pomerol. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.
Tasting
Château CLINET 2013 has a brilliant, deep carmine (morello-cherry red) colour.
Very complex, the nose reveals scents of blackcurrant, morello cherries, blueberry and sweet pepper, delicately sprinkled with brown sugar and liquorice.
The creamy, silky texture perfectly evokes the Clinet style. Lingering aromas of exquisite plums and blueberries blend cleverly with hints of toasted bread and spices.
The vintage
The CLINET 2013 harvest took place later and more quickly than usual, with only 4.5 days of picking over a total period of 11 days. Merlots: 30 September (young vines), 1st, 2nd and 3rd October, then 3rd October for the old vines; Cabernets: 12th October.
The harvest was healthy and ripeness reached a “reasonable” alcohol level (slightly above 13° alcohol) compared with several vintages of the previous decade. Macerations lasted 3 weeks, with regular punching down, ensuring gentle extraction.
The average yield, close to 33 hl/ha, is the result of a rigorous selection, in order to offer precise wines with crunchy fruit, complex, balanced and refreshing. The 2013 vintage embodies the style and elegance of the classic vintages produced at CLINET.

Terroir
