Tasting
The 2022 vintage of Cathiard Vineyard was defined by contrasting climatic conditions, yielding wines of exceptional character and complexity. These wines show refreshing acidity and liveliness, accompanied by remarkable texture and depth. "A complex bouquet of black fruit, notes of tobacco and Valrhona chocolate. The palate is richly textured and elegant, with velvety tannins that gently coat the mouth. Winemaking
Meticulous hand-sorting of the clusters followed by gentle destemming and precise optical sorting to select only the finest whole berries. The grapes are moved by gravity into the vats and undergo a five-day cold maceration to preserve their pure fruit aromas. Extraction is carried out by pump-overs during fermentation. After 30 days in vat, the wine is drained, pressed and undergoes natural malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels.
Ageing
Ageing in barrel for 18 months, 80% new French oak barrels.
Terroir
All of these improvements in the vineyard have been met with some pleasant surprises and with very distinctive expressions of certain parcels. "Up and Down", the highest hillside parcel, has a tannic profile, firm, tense and fresh, while "Backbone", located on sedimentary soil, offers a more fleshy and unctuous profile, allowing for wonderful blends.
