Vintage benchmark: 89/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)
Vintage character: Rain at véraison followed by a dry September gave classic, balanced wines with fine freshness, without the density of 2005.
Overall reading of the year’s season across Saint-Julien. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.
The wine has a very good dark color. The fruity aromas are well expressed, marked by notes of black fruit and black cherry. Good impression of maturity. On the palate, fruity aromas, discreet woody notes, perceptible roasting aromas, the tannins are present but suave and carry the structure of the wine without hardening it. The ageing potential is assured but the softness of the tannins will undoubtedly allow this wine to be consumed after 5 years of ageing. The acidity is present and brings a nice freshness which induces an appreciable final length. A wine of very good quality which completes in its style the very good series of wines produced since 2000. In terms of classification, 2006 is less accomplished and perfect than 2005 but is above 2004 in terms of richness and body, so for us it is a great success and we are certain that this promises very good bottles in a few years.
