Winemaking
Cuves en bois de 50 et 60 hl afin d'affiner la sélection parcellaire et valoriser chaque lot, complétées par des cuves en inox, toute l'installation est thermo-régulée. La durée de macération est de 20 à 30 jours selon les lots et les millésimes. Fermentation malolactique en barriques.

Terroir
Enrichies en 1999 de deux hectares, acquis auprès de prestigieux châteaux voisins, les vignes de Château Rouget s'étendent aujourd'hui sur 18 hectares. L'encépagement est de 85% de merlot et 15% de cabernet franc. Cet encépagement convient en effet bien mieux que le précédent (cabernet sauvignon et cabernet franc majoritaires) au terroir de Château Rouget, dont le sol à dominante argilo-graveleuse avec des graves siliceuses par endroits, puise sa personnalité dans un sous-sol d'alios ferrugineux. Entre ces pieds nouveaux, âgés aujourd'hui de près d'une dizaine d'années, et la partie la plus ancienne du vignoble, qui dépasse parfois les cinquante ans tout en restant d'une excellente productivité - limitée volontairement ici à 35 hectolitres à l'hectare, la moyenne d'âge des vignes de Château Rouget est d'environ trente ans.
