Area under vine at the estate, from its technical sheet — it does not change from one vintage to the next. Each vintage’s blend, by contrast, departs from it: that figures on its own page. The estate does not publish the share of each grape variety: they are listed without proportions.
"Concerto" was born in 1981, as an effect of a viticulture with an unexpressed potential, experimenting new training systems and new blends, including also non-autochthonous varietals; it was one of the forerunners and also one of the top 10 players of the "Super Tuscans" phenomenon.
Concerto di Fonterutoli — Terroir
Fonterutoli vineyards (Castellina in Chianti): Concerto vineyard, 350 m (1,150 ft) a.s.l. Soil: rocky, coming from decomposed limestone and sandstone.
The grapes ripen in the vineyard of the same name, located in the western part of the property at an altitude of about 350 meters above sea level. Thanks to the oak forest that surrounds it, this vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate. The Sangiovese, from mass selections belonging to an experimental vineyard dating back to the 1930s, is cultivated in the plots of Brotine Alto, Acacie, and Scassi. These plots enjoy a southwest exposure and a very rich soil structure with a high presence of limestone. The Cabernet Sauvignon is grown in an adjacent plot called Brotine Basso, which equally rocky and limestone-rich soil is particularly favorable for expressing the distinctive potential of this grape variety.

Siepi, owned by Mazzei family since 1435, has always been a model farm, still managed today with the same kind of respect. A unique location, a special microclimate, the foresight in the early 1980s to plant Merlot as the ideal grape to complement Sangiovese in a very particular "terroir" produce a wine which is perfectly balanced between elegance, power and complexity.
Siepi — Terroir
Siepi vineyard (Castellina in Chianti): 260 m (850 ft) a.s.l.; S-SW exposure. Soil: mainly Alberese.
The vineyard is set in the midst of dense oak woods; constant westerly breezes prevent hot extremes and create a mild, almost-Mediterranean temperature. The rocky-textured soils of alberese marl, limestone, and Pliocene clays lie atop the bedrock. The Siepi vineyard has been tended organically since 2006.
