Château Grand Corbin 2021

The 2021 vintage in Saint-Émilion

Vintage benchmark: 85/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)

Vintage character: Frost followed by a cool summer brought back classic wines, lighter and more taut, to be drunk in their youth.

Overall reading of the year’s season across Saint-Émilion. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.

The vintage

2021 was a vintage that required meticulous, skilled work throughout the vine cycle and then in the cellar, with a precise selection of lots for the blending. It was unquestionably a winemaker’s vintage that left no respite for the teams.

After a few months of ageing, the wine reveals fresh red berry fruit, floral notes of violet and a radiant character. On the palate, balance and freshness come to the fore, while the finish is long and precise. The Merlot, drastically selected, brings the characteristic smoothness of the estate’s patchwork of clay soils. The Cabernet Franc comes through fully, confirming the special character of the Grand Corbin terroir.

Vine cycle: budding on 29 March, mid-flowering on 7 June, fruit set on 12 July, mid-veraison on 11 August.
