Château Grand Corbin 2011

The 2011 vintage in Saint-Émilion

Vintage benchmark: 86/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)

Vintage character: A warm spring followed by a wet summer gave classic wines, best drunk relatively young.

Overall reading of the year’s season across Saint-Émilion. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.

Tasting

A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé with an intense ruby colour, supple tannins, complex aromas and natural freshness.

Winemaking

At the end of the pre-fermentation maceration phase, the temperature of each tank is raised to 22° to encourage the start of alcoholic fermentation.

Ageing

Once vinification is complete, each harvest is carefully aged for 18 months in barrels, in the estate’s spacious cellars equipped with temperature-controlled ventilation.

Terroir

The estate lies 3 km north-west of the medieval town of Saint-Émilion, on the edge of the Pomerol vineyards. Its soil consists of a vein of green ferric clay covered by a thick layer of silica. Three grape varieties are grown on this soil: Merlot at 68%, Cabernet Franc at 27% and Cabernet Sauvignon for the remaining 5%. It is the marriage of these three varieties, in harmony with the terroir of this area, that gives Château Grand-Corbin its character. The vineyard is made up of 35 plots with an average vine age of 40 years.
