Why this vintage

The 2024 vintage in Pomerol

Vintage benchmark: 87/100 (appellation benchmark, not a score for this wine)

Vintage character: A difficult flowering and a wet summer reduced the harvest: light, aromatic wines, to be drunk early.

Overall reading of the year’s season across Pomerol. An estate can depart from it sharply, in frost or hail years, where two neighbours did not make the same vintage. What this particular wine actually gave is on its technical sheet and in the scores above.

Tasting

«Clinet 2024 displays a deep garnet colour, brightly flecked with light. The nose is intense, bursting with Morello cherry, wild berries and delicious pastry scents. A smooth, velvety texture unfolds on the palate, heralding a delightful array of aromas that is both rich and harmonious. The wine lingers with a «mezzo» and silky finish.»

The vintage

A growing season with a strong oceanic influence. A climate with alternating patterns throughout the vines’ growth cycle, from March to October, where rain showers often gave way to sunshine.

During a year that felt tropical at times, the summer was mild and dry. After a lengthy growing season, the harvest began towards the end of September (23rd to 27th September for the Merlots, 3rd and 4th October for the Cabernets), a late date by contemporary standards.

Both Merlots and Cabernets reached gentle ripeness, by recent standards, ennobled by silky tannins. The 2024 stands out as an appealing vintage, with intense aromatic expression, a velvety texture and a “mezzo” finish. This Clinet will show its full potential from its early years and age elegantly and durably.

Terroir
